Yes they are safe. They are nothing more than a tool to simplify the tuning process (and yes they do show nifty gauges as well). As a tool though it enables you to use different maps on your car tailored to whatever modifications you have.

Target boost for the Cobb Stage 2 maps is 17.5 psi, + 0.5 psi. The Cobb maps are considered “safe” by just about everyone other than SOA, especially if you run their 91 oct map.

Can a Cobb AccessPort damage your car?

Plugging in a Cobb Accessport is unlikely to cause any damage, but any major modifications made to the ECU could damage the system. It may be tempting to replace conservative factory settings with more aggressive calibrations, but it’s a risky move.

Are Cobb tunes Vin locked?

It is not permanently locked to any ECU. Also, the SCT limits your unlocks, the Cobb does not.

Will a Cobb Tune pass emissions?

Tunes do not disable the o2 heater circuits as far as I know. COBB stage 1/2 leave the emissions system on so you should pass (idk about California). COBB stage 3 turns off the rear o2 sensor and you won’t pass. Some custom tunes do this as well.

How much HP does a Cobb tuner add?

The cold air intake from cobb will not give any more hp gains but will give the intake some noises and make the car seem faster or stronger. The stock intake is roughly good for about 400 hp.

Does Cobb have a burble tune?

This is an option to get a burble tune created for any Cobb Off The Shelf (OTS) map. We will create a new separate tune with this featured added that you can flash and use. The burble effect is simply some pops or exhaust crackle between shifts or when coasting in gear above 3200 rpms.

Does Stage 1 hurt the car?

Since you are pushing more power, there is definitely negative impact, but it is minimal. With a Stage 1 tune, you are still pushing the engine well within the limit. I would recommend you move up your maintenance schedule.

Can you daily drive a Stage 2 car?

No harm at all as long as your car is maintained. I have been stage 2+ for a few years and its my daily driver.

Is Stage 1 or 2 better?

Stage 2 tune provides higher power gains than stage 1 but is more complex since you will have to remap the engine, get additional components, and perform expert-level modifications on the parts. Getting a larger turbo or a hybrid turbo in your vehicle is an example of a stage 2 tune.

Can you leave Accessport plugged in?

The Accessport does not need to be plugged into the vehicle for the calibration to be in effect. You can disconnect the Accessport at this time or leave it plugged in to use any of the many features outlined below. Please note that the Accessport is designed to work with only one vehicle at a time.

Will tuning car damage engine?

Some people are concerned that engine remapping could cause problems with their car. But it shouldn’t affect reliability if you use a reputable company. Remapping does put extra strain on an engine, but not a dangerous amount if it’s done properly.

What happens if Accessport is stolen?

You will need to contact Cobb. They will ask you to send in your ECU so they can reflash you back to stock. Plus they will also put a block on that unit.

Does a Cobb tune remove the governor?

And no, a custom protune does not remove the governor. That is a deliberate step the tuner must take.

Do you have to keep Cobb tuner plugged in?

You can leave it plugged in if you want to monitor your engine parameters or you can unplug it if you want. But once flashed, the ECU does not need to see the AP to function properly.

Will a Cobb Stage 1 tune pass smog?

So Cobb is a flash tune, so when it comes time to smog, you’ll fail unless you flash it back to the stock map.
