The VTT relay is located in the E-box as represented in the previously posted video RHS of the engine bay. There is a couple of relays in the E-box for the VTT and the DME and I understand they have the same specifications and are interchangeable. To test the relay you can remove it and use a DMM and a power supply.

How do I reset my BMW Valvetronic?
Insert the valvetronic motor and connect its 2 pin plug. Then switch the ignition onto position 2 and within a space of 15 seconds, depress the accelerator pedal down to full throttle 10 times and you will hear the valvetronic motor program itself back to factory spec.
What causes valvetronic motor failure?
Typical causes could include poor electrical connections, a damaged or defective actuator motor, low system voltages, or a binding/sticking eccentric shaft. The presence of this code will typically cause the Valvetronic system to be deactivated, and in some cases, a limp mode to be initiated.
Can valvetronic cause misfire?
The main question โ can the problems with Valvetronic be the cause of such (misfires/shivering) problem? Short answer โ within the limits of reason: no, Valvetronic is not the cause of this problem!
What does the Valvetronic servomotor do?
The Valvetronic system is a BMW variable valve lift system which, in combination with variable valve timing, allows infinite adjustment of the intake valve timing and duration. The system claims to improve fuel economy and emissions, and negates the need for a throttle body in regular use.
Can you drive without Valvetronic?
You shouldve just unplugged valvetronic instead of trying to actuate it via software… when the dme sees valvetronic not working right it disables it with the valves at maximum lift. the car continues to drive fine with disabled valvetronic.
What are the symptoms of a bad valvetronic?
Common symptoms that you will notice in this case include engine light is on, your BMW won’t start, runs rough, or an engine misfire.
Will valvetronic harm my car?
It will not damage anything. By disconnecting the eccentric shaft sensor, the DME will put the valvetronic into emergency running mode. The valves will go to full lift via the DME activating the valvetronic motor and the accelerator will work off the throttle body.
How does BMW Valvetronic work?

Can a vacuum leak cause an engine misfire?
Vacuum leaks, especially those that are confined to one cylinder, will cause the engine to idle unevenly and possibly misfire. This is because the vacuum leak allows additional air to reach the affected cylinder, diluting its air/fuel mixture.
Why is my car misfiring while idling?
Many system malfunctions can cause misfires or rough idling. Ignition system components, including spark plugs, plug wires, ignition coils and ignition timing are culprits as are lean air/fuel mixtures and mechanical issues within the engine.
What causes misfiring in VVTI engine?
The most common causes of misfires are worn, improperly installed, and mishandled spark plugs, malfunctioning ignition coils, carbon tracking, faulty spark plug wires and vacuum leaks.
What causes servo failure?
Winding & Cable Failures Bad winding is a common cause of servo motor failure. These copper coils within the motor can be compromised due to water contaminationโor more slowly over time thanks to natural vibration as the motor runs.
What does a servo motor do on a BMW?
In modern cars, servo motors are used to control its speed.
How much does it cost to replace a VVT actuator?
The average cost for variable valve timing actuator replacement is between $742 and $861. Labor costs are estimated between $456 and $575 while parts are priced at $286. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your specific vehicle or unique location.
Can a car run without a VVT solenoid?
In some cases, the motor may run (not very well) with a broken or damaged variable valve timing solenoid, however it will likely not run for long due to the critical role the VVT solenoid plays in the timing of the motor.
Is VVT necessary?
If the college does not require the test, then generally NO, it will not hurt your application. But know that without test scores other parts of your application will become more important. This includes your GPA, your college essay, awards and achievements, references, and any extracurricular activities you include.
What is BMW vanos?
BMW’s VANOS stands for Variable Nockenwellen Steuerung. The VANOS is incorporated in the BMW M50 engines, where they focus on controlling the cam gear, which has a mechanical link to the exhaust gear by a chain.
What does BMW eccentric shaft sensor do?
The eccentric shaft sensor is responsible for controlling valvetronic timing, and has been known to be a common issue. If your car has been experiencing difficult starts, low fuel economy, and overall lack of engine power and performance, this component may be to blame.
What is a Valvetronic eccentric shaft actuator?
The Valvetronic sensor measures the position of the eccentric shaft in the cylinder head which controls the variable valve lift system on the intake side of the engine. The Valvetronic system essentially controls the engine speed by varying the lift of the intake valves.
Why is a throttle butterfly not required in a Valvetronic system?
Valvetronic electronically โ and instantaneously โ varies both lift and the timing of inlet valves, so the engine breathing is controlled completely by the intake valves. It eliminates the usual “butterfly” throttle valve โ and with it a major cause of pumping losses.
Can you drive with a bad valvetronic motor?
If valvetronic fails, your electric throttle body takes over. Your engine is currently operating as a regular engine with a throttle. It is safe to drive to the mechanic. The most common problem is the eccentric shaft sensor.
Are valvetronic exhausts good?
I’d definitely recommend grabbing this exhaust. Bryon Solomont recommends Valvetronic Designs. Very good customer support along with good delivery times too, the sound is amazing, extremely easy install and never an issue with fitting, highly recommended.
How much does Valvetronic exhaust cost?
Stainless Steel Remus Valvetronic Exhaust, Size: 165 Mn at Rs 18000 in New Delhi.
How does a car act with a burnt valve?
Rough Running and Misfiring If a cylinder has a burnt valve, that cylinder won’t seal properly, leading to a loss of compression. The engine will begin to misfire and run rough as a result.
